Well, I guess youve seen the news on the website - Here is the mail that Simon sent me earlier - "Hi Jon, I am sorry to say our worse fear has happened , we are cancelling the planned song07 festival. this is due to local objections and a campaign to stop the event being run by a local tory councillor with the help of the local newspaper forcing the licence panel to hold a public hearing and indeed us taking them all the way to the courts to get the licence for the event. All the local goodwill has been lost by the anti festival campaign and due to lack of local council and newspaper support we have no choice but to cancel. its a real shame , its a fantastic lineup in a wonderful location , we are truly upset to have to do this but have no choice at this stage , we have explored every option to make Song07 work. I would like to personally thank you for all your time and effort spent on Song07 , its a real shame but we have no choices left to us at this stage. regards Simon F" Im sure your all as upset as i am it looks like the nimbys! have won again - Hopefully if we start now we can garner more support for Song 08! - I shall keep the board running in the mean time if any of you guys have any suggestions or perhaps alternative events that you may be attending this year - thanks for your support, Im sure we would have had a busy and fantastic board ,given time! Cheers Jon

absolutely gutted. Thanks to everyone who tried to make this festival happen. I feared this would happen - the people of west yorkshire like a good moan (me included haha) and like to object to everything!

Yep! me too! It looks like they are going for song 08 though so we'll have to find a way to make sure the liscence goes through this time!! are you going to any other festies this year dys? were off to a couple - The wickerman in south west scotland and solfest up here in cumbria - both great events

The only thing we can do is work to make Song08 even more of a success than Song07 would have been... (and make sure we're still booked for it. : ) )
This was a nonsense. An absolute nonsense. But after a few years even in the industry's fringes, you unfortunately stop being surprised.
Doesn't mean you have to like it, or you shouldn't fight back.

Yes indeed Kentonist! "we shall fight them on the beaches!" etc etc. I shall keep the board alive, maybe the change the focus of the forum to "Make Song 08 a reality". We should find the relevant authorities to start canvassing now - perhaps create a template style letter of support that people can download - sign there own name - and send.mmmmm thoughts abound?.......

Your not wrong Tony! It's early days I know but the more we raise awareness now the more chance we have of making Song 08 a reality!!
